Overview

Knot Springs is a beautifully designed wellness club tucked into Portland’s Central Eastside, offering a refined and tranquil soak experience high above the city. It features multiple temperature pools, saunas, steam rooms, and thoughtfully crafted relaxation areas. Reservations are required to stave off crowds, keeping the atmosphere blissful and exclusive.

Key Takeaways

  • What it is: A modern hydrotherapy spa in Portland with a focus on design and ritual.
  • Why it’s special: Its clean, artful architecture and curated thermal journey set it apart from typical day spas.
  • Who it’s best for: Urban adults who need a quiet, intentional reset.
  • What to expect: Warm soaking pools, cold plunges, saunas, steam, and relaxation areas built for lingering.

What You’ll Experience

Knot Springs suggests that visitors follow an ordered "ritual" sampling of their pools, sauna, and steam rooms, starting with an exfoliating shower in one of their locker rooms. They offer botanical soaps that smell and feel high-end and luxurious. Bathing suits are required and no phones are allowed once you exit the locker rooms!

Hot Pools

Knot Springs offers a variety of soaking pools at different temperatures. The modern stone design and soft lighting make the pools peaceful and visually calming. The tepidarium and caladarium pools are set to around 98°F and 104°F, respectively. Visitors were soaking in silence or chatting quietly. I brought my Kindle to read for a bit, and I saw one other visitor doing the same.

Cold Plunge

The cold plunge is maintained at 47°F, which is especially biting after the hot caldarium. I was able to stand it for about 40 seconds at a time.

Saunas & Steam

The dry sauna and steam rooms are next. I usually prefer the sauna to the steam room, but I loved the eucalyptus-infused steam here.

Rehydration and Relaxation

You're invited to pour a glass of plain or herbal-infused ice water and grab some fruit at the end of the ritual. You can recline and enjoy the city views.

Best Times to Visit

  • Most relaxing: After dark for a sparkling skyline view
  • Least crowded: Midday on weekdays- the younger crowd is at work
  • Best value: Members have special pricing and access
  • Best for photos: Golden hour

Pricing

  • Standard passes: Public day passes typically range between $55 - $65 for a 2 hour session

How to Get There

Parking is available in nearby garages or street spots, but plan for typical downtown rates. Use the lobby elevator in the building to reach the spa level. Public transit or ride-share are also convenient options for a stress-free arrival.

What to Bring

  • Swimsuit
  • Sandals
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Hair tie
  • Optional: light book or journal

Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Visit

  • Cycle through the full ritual: Start in warm or hot pools, then plunge, sauna, steam, and repeat. They've designed it well!
  • Go during off-peak hours: Early weekday mornings or late afternoons for more space.
  • Hydrate: Enjoy the infused water between rounds to help your body recover.
  • Use relaxation spaces: Take your time between cycles! Relaxing is part of the ritual, not just the pools.
